Not Just More Room—A Better Home

Adding a second storey is about more than space. It’s about how you live. At The Perfect Space, we take a holistic approach. That means reworking your ground floor as part of the same design, so your entire home flows together. From reconfiguring old kitchens and poky laundries to opening up living zones and improving natural light, our second storey additions transform homes from the ground up. We don’t believe in "pop-tops." We believe in homes that feel architecturally resolved, timeless, and personal.

The Perfect Space is a boutique, multi-award winning Sydney building & interior design company. We specialise in architectural builds and custom renovation projects.

Architecturally Designed

We are a small-volume builder delivering beautiful, architecturally designed and luxury custom renovations, extensions and outdoor living spaces of the highest standard.

Most builders avoid ground floor changes. It slows them down and breaks their "cookie cutter" process. But if your ground floor doesn't work, adding a second storey won’t solve much. We take the time to resolve kitchen flow, living layout, and outdoor connection—so your upstairs plan integrates beautifully with the life you live downstairs. This is how you create real value.

Best Practice: Start With the Ground Floor

Where do we start?

It starts with you.
Contact us through our webform and we’ll be in touch within 24 hours to discuss your project and book your initial consultation.

From there, we begin with our Concept Design + Cost Analysis (CDCA) process. It’s a structured, collaborative step that defines what’s possible, what it costs, and how we’ll deliver it.
No vague estimates. No pressure. Just clarity and confidence from the beginning.

Do I need to have plans or a designer before engaging you?

No. Our in-house team includes architecture, interior design, and construction. You’ll work with one expert team from concept to completion.

What’s included in the CDCA phase?
Our comprehensive concept design and cost analysis includes the latest in 3D image technology and floor plans as well as the important the build cost of the design with detailed preliminary costs, inclusions, materials, and any other requested optional extras.
Clear next steps for approvals and construction
How long does the CDCA phase take?

4–6 weeks on average, depending on project scope and decision pace.

Do you handle council approvals?

Yes. Whether it’s a Development Application (DA) or Complying Development Certificate (CDC), we manage the process end-to-end—plans, consultants, reports, submissions, and follow-up.

Can I make changes along the way?

Yes—this is a collaborative process.

During the Concept Design + Cost Analysis phase, we present the closest possible design aligned with your brief and wishlist. It’s not the final design, but it sets a clear foundation for discussions around scope, priorities, and cost.
Design changes are not made in this stage.

The real refinement happens in the next stage—our Building Approval Agreement phase—where we develop the design in detail. This is when floorplans, selections, and layouts are fine-tuned to ensure everything is fully resolved and ready for approvals.

We’ll explain this in more detail during your concept presentation meeting.

Do I need my own interior designer?

No. Our interior designers are part of the team. From materials to lighting to styling, we manage the entire interiors package—no handovers, no guesswork.

How involved are you during construction?

Completely. Your site manager, designer, and architect all stay involved throughout. You also get full access to our online portal for daily progress, approvals, and updates.

What makes The Perfect Space different?
We aren’t just builders or designers—we’re both.
One team. One process. One contract. That means fewer delays, tighter control, and a clearer path from vision to handover.
Interior design, engineering, styling, approvals, and project management are built in—not bolted on.
The Move-Out Question

One of the biggest mental blocks homeownersface is moving out. It feels overwhelming—but avoiding it often leads to poordecisions. Renting a smaller apartment for a few months is a small price to payfor getting the best result. Clients who move out get a faster, safer build—anda home that’s worth the wait.

If moving out is not an option, we will discuss alternatives. We have hadclients live through renovations—but only if it's safe to do so, and the scopeallows for it. In these cases, we sequence the works carefully to minimisedisruption and maintain liveable areas during the build.
